Eva Mendes Checks Out of Rehab. Kirsten Dunst Checks In
Is everyone in Hollywood having problems with drugs? I’d normally skip over a story like this, but when you hear that Eva Mendes, someone who isn’t regularly in the glow of the paparazzi flash, just got out of rehab, it’s hard not to take a second look. Eva checked into the Cirque Lodge rehab center in Utah last month. Her publicist said she was struggling with substance abuse: “Eva has been working hard for the past year and made a positive decision to take some much needed time off to attend to some personal issues that, while not critical, she felt deserved some outside professional support.”
Eva checked out of the clinic yesterday afternoon and immediately hopped on a flight to her home in Los Angeles. Some reports say she left to take care of some personal business and will return to complete her treatment.
If that’s happens Eva can talk shop with Kirsten Dunst, she checked into the same clinic this morning.
Kirsten’s publicist didn’t comment any further to the media.
I’d love to anablog this rehab stuff [new word] but I can’t begin to figure out how a working actress like Kirsten Dunst, who has three films lined up, or Eva Mendes with two gets tied up in drugs.
It’s likely prescription drugs. Anyone can get a handful of that candy and misuse them when the pressures of the bizness creep in. Finding one first-hand perspective of what that ‘pressure’ might be will have me dusting off Tom Green’s “Hollywood Causes Cancer.”
It’s been on the shelf for awhile. His soar and crash story suddenly seems relevant.
Quick Official Snip
Eight years ago, Tom Green lived in his parents’ basement in Canada.
He spent his time skateboarding, making funny videos with his friends, and dreaming of hosting his own talk show. MTV saw his low-budget public access show and brought him to New York, and Tom’s next few years in show business were a bizarre roller-coaster ride. Not only did he achieve his dream with The Tom Green Show, but he launched a movie career and married a Hollywood actress.
Then the tide turned. Their house burned down. Tom was diagnosed with testicular cancer (and recorded his surgery in a hysterical, oddly moving documentary for MTV). He endured a highly publicized divorce.
All of a sudden, he went from media darling to media punching bag.
“Not a day goes by when I don’t wake up and think, just for a second, usually between taking a leak and brushing my teeth, what the hell happened?”
