Bone Crusher - AttenCHUN!
 (Arista Records)

- reviewed by Chris G.

You see this Bone Crusher guy running around concert stages with his big, disgustingly fat belly hanging over his belt like it's a badge of honor. Then there's the "look at me, I'm crazy" stares in his photo ops and publicity photos. Not knowing anything about him besides those exterior facts, my expectation was that this CD was gonna be a serious piece of crap.. straight trash, yo. Wrong. Just don't expect Nas-like lyricism. BC is on that down south crunk sh-t and his loud voice over trunk knocking production is perfect for this kind of "mash out" music, and the guest artists don't sound like tag-a-long homies, they can actually get down. In particular Jack Frost and Lady Ice; Ice sounds so much like Gangsta Boo that if isn't her, someone has possessed the body Boo is supposed to have shed for Jesus. Speaking of which, it's all good up until track 13 when the subject matter abruptly switches to a positive/social criticism vibe. Which is all good, but it's like you're in the club and someone turned the lights on. He took it straight to the morning session at First Baptist ministry, still wearing the clothes from the booty bar. Sup with that?

The Industry Says

rapreviews.com - 3.5 out of 10 "Listening to this album will only do one thing - give you a stronger appreciation for real Southern rap kingpins like OutKast, Scarface, Big Mike, Tela and Devin the Dude. While they write real lyrics with some actual thought behind them to go with their tight beats, Crusher relies on the beats to get his whack lyrics over."

The Source - 3 mics .."The rambunctious war chants and angry, death-march-inspired production reigns supreme on tracks like "Lock and Load" and "Back Up." But the furious bounce of "Never Scared" with T.I. and Killer Mike is what has Southern clubs up in arms, literally."

hiphopDX.com - 4 out of 5 stars .."Although it’s apparent that his loyalty is to the back areas of the ghetto with songs like the bouncy-grim “Back Up,” “Grippin’ the Grain” and “Puttin’ In Work” featuring Mississippi producer/rapper David Banner, Crusher easily flips into a calmer, reflective mode on several tracks. On these cuts, he utilizes his keen insight to carry the song, further demonstrating his versatility."
