Da Brat - Limelite Luv and Nieclubz

"It's shocking that I'm the one your mocking.." Uh uh, hip-hop is a tough, tough, game. DMX started the trend of releasing 2 and three albums in a year. Which simply injected into hip-hop what any Hollywood star knows: you've got to stay on the celebrity radar or risk losing your spot. Da Brat hasn't released an album in a hot minute, so after 7 years on the map she finds herself having to reintroduce herself to the public. With that said, her album is a suprisingly tight 11-song burst of uh, decent material.

Why she relates it to nightclubs is a mystery, the bouncy, vibrant production by JD and Co. imagines sunshine and tropical breezes. In this chorus driven music with lean lyrical content, it's rare that you actually look forward to hearing a rapper spit.. but these songs actually pick up the pace on the verses. The girl is tops when it comes to the tongue flip, complex, puzzle pieced, Chicago, Twista'd flow. Despite what she's actually saying, it blends in like another instrument in the beat. I doubt it if you'll hear any cars with this CD in the system, but, if anything, polite applause is in order.- CG
