Inspectah Deck - The Movement
 (Koch Records)
Inspectah Deck starts off his second solo joint declaring that it's the beginning of a new era in rap - it's the movement, up from the roots. The problem with most movements is that they pull in many directions, lacking in focus and don't give an attractive option to the element their rebelling against. Deck has always been one of the sharper swords in the Wu, and he's still able to slice a track with cinematic wordplay. Unfortunately, when matching verse to chorus and those to a beat.. the results are songs that you want to like cause he's flowing, delving deeper than most, but the chorus mashes things up. The worst offender would be "Framed" with reggae chanting in the break. It's not all bad.. like those movements, you always have the speaker who says a few things that get the people hyped: "Get Right," "The Movement," and "City High" make the cut. What's missing is consistent quality across the 16 tracks.. Where is RZA when you need him?

The Industry Says
The Source - 3 mics .."Though his follow-up to 1999's Uncontrolled Substance  is clearly rooted in the Wu-Tang ethic, it is unclear where exactly The Movement  is going."

XXL - medium .."On his second solo effort, The Movement, Deck tries to raise his stock by experimenting with different flows, intonations and call-and-resonse choruses, with varying degrees of success."

Thickonline.com - .." the title track is a nice throwback to the cold world days when the Wu ripped it consistently…you know Deck’s that street scribe that paints pain quite clear. To summarize…its street…its gritty…but there’s only enough heat to make the inner rings of the element glow.
