Wayne Brady Snags Grammy Nod for “A Change Gonna Come”.. Yes, That Wayne Brady
I’m sure you are well aware of Lil Wayne’s.. 19 Grammy nominations in 43 categories.. but did you know that Wayne Brady will also be at the Staples Center on February 8, 2009? He’s nominated for.. best Traditional R&B Vocal Performance. I see you scratching your head.. Wayne Brady?.. Yes, that Wayne Brady.
I get a bunch of magazines in the mail, that I haven’t subscribed to, but read anyway. I was flipping through Concord, a jazz magazine, there was an article about Wayne Brady’s new CD. The writer says it all..
“Poor guy’s gonna be confused with the Emmy award-winning actor/comedian.’ Oops. This release actually is the work of said actor/comedian. But hold on, this is no ego-stroking vanity project. With the help of producers, The Heavyweights, Brady has put together a collection of intimate and highly personal songs. A Long Time Coming is a clever play on the Sam Cooke lyric as well as Brady’s struggle to find the time to focus on his music.. Could it be the television hosting, the acting roles, the stand-up touring and the Vegas headlining?
Brady, you slacker! What took you so long?”
Wayne Brady, why did you record an album?
That was enough to peak my interest. I surfed over to Amazon for the sample tracks. Wayne Brady proves he’s most definitely NOT a novelty act. Dude can sing. The throwback track A Change Gonna Come will shut down any opinions to the contrary. Take a listen..
Wayne Brady “A Change Gonna Come”
No wonder he got that Grammy nod. Hope he walks away with the prize.
☼ What's Your Opinion? ☼
Wow, I always guessed Wayne could sing, but I didn’t know he could blow like this! What a pleasant surprise!
I was a fan of Wayne Brady’s singing acumen back when he was singing “Say A Little Prayer For You.” This really was some beautiful soul singing.
I started getting misty at the start, hearing those strings wind up— I always get some awesome chills when I hear that song. But I swear to hear this rendition sung by Wayne Brady with the caliber of soul reminiscent of struggle and overcoming akin to the bygone era of the 50’s and 60’s, to hear it and have it resonate with the struggles the world is facing globally, economically and all ways otherwise while knowing that we have a man like Barack Obama getting ready to turn it all around, that— that is very awe inspiring, very encouraging and very humbling.
I enjoy that although this is a cover, Wayne Brady made this song his own. I don’t even need to hear the rest of the album. Everyone is getting this for the holidays. How great would it be to have Wayne Brady singing this at President-elect Barack Obama’s Inauguration on the steps of The Capitol Building right before Barack Obama is sworn in?
I LOVE WAYNE BRADY!!!!!!!
He is corny and cool and doesn’t give a damn about what genre or gig they give him. He always makes it work!
I did the same thing when I saw him on Tyra. I always thought he could sing. I just didn’t think he could pull it off.. He proved me wrong..
